Prior College hosted the first game of the
new season with a friendly fixture between
Prior A and Prior B. Many of the players
were absent due to the open evening but
those present enjoyed a good run out in a
game that Prior A, led by the talented James
Burton enjoyed a healthy lead from start to
finish.
Tom Early and in particular Jack Sanders
enjoyed a good performance for Prior B but
the combination of Burton and Matthew Brown
was too much and by half time Prior A were
leading by 12 points, 48-36
In the third quarter Mike Dickinson produced
some good basketball as he controlled the
ball and made good passes. Dickinson also
contributed with points as time and again,
he made good cuts to the basket. Micah
Howley for Prior B and Lewis Young for Prior
A upped their defence in the third but it
would be the A team who came off the better,
extending their lead to 20 points, 64-44.
In the fourth quarter Ashleigh Hannah was
rewarded for her good defence, as she scored
her first basket of the game. Her combined
defence with Richard Jackson made it
difficult for the B team players to get a
good open shot, often relying on the
individual skills of Early and Sanders. By
the end of the game Prior A added to their
lead, but only by 2 points as the final
score read 84-62.
In a good scoring game with all players
heavily involved, Prior A were worthy
winners and the Game MVP awarded to James
Burton.
