Bucci Continues To Impress

GS Peristeriou are enjoying a good run, thanks to no small part from Ralph Bucci, who is playing his best basketball since arriving in Greece three years ago. Many would argue that this season has been his first real season where he has been played to his full strengths and his stats are suggesting he is the catalyst to his teams success, especially after losing their first two games. Bucci was his teams top scorer with 18 points in their win over Iraklis at the weekend and his impressive strat to the new season has seen him enter the leaders tables after only five games for rebounding (11th with 32), points (22nd with 62), free throws (2nd with 24/27 89%), steals (20th with 7) and his good figures have led to him being ranked 6th in the whole league for performance. Peristeriou are in eighth place with one game in hand.

Stats from Bucci's latest win:
GS Peristeriou 90-79 Iraklis

Bucci was also voted Eurobasket.com MVP for his display against AO Sporting. Click link to read the report.

Have your say on how Ralph is doing and where you think his team will finish on the Game Time message forum.

The Losers are Winning!
Its not often you win, if you are part of the losers, but the 'Losers' team won three of their four games in the Game Time Central Venue League yesterday. They top the table with 9 points from their first three games, 2 points ahead of the Lions in second with one loss.

With a few players missing from the male and female leagues and the possibility of new teams, the league is tipped for further excitement.

Ralph Leads GS Peristeriou To Big Win
Ralph Bucci led the way with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals in 21 minutes in a 91-58 win over AO Sporting. Bucci put in an MVP performance to secure the teams first win of the season after a shaky couple of games. Peristeriou now travel to Apollon Patron on Saturday and could move to first place in the table should they win and other results go their way. A Patron are struggling third from bottom and this will be a game Peristeriou must win, if they have any Championship aspirations. You can have your say about this game and the Greek League or give your support to Ralph in the message forum.

13/10/07
In a very sluggish performance from both teams, a low scoring outcome was the only guarantee from this game. Neither team played badly but no one played exceptionally well either. With so many simple errors and missed shots the Lions win was a welcome one, although there was a sense of disappointment in the lack of performance. For full match report and photos click here.

MVP matthew Insall
The Redcar Mariners pulled off a comfortable win over the young Lions to take the Lions B team to one win and two losses for the season. The experience and talent of the Redcar outfit was too much as Paul Neesam, Gordon Barnes and Craig O'Malley combined well with game MVP Matthew Insall to beat the Lions by 33 points. Lions were without key player Matthew Norman and Matthew Brown, last games top scorer with 37, enjoyed a game to forget hitting only 6 points in the last quarter. TU Lions travelled with only eight players to Catterick Garrison to play the Richmond Vikings but had enough to win the game with relative ease. Lions' Roar Generates Thunder!
The Lions B team overcame a physical side in Thirsk Thunder to achieve their first win of the new campaign and bring their record to 1-1. Lions controlled the game throughout whilst the inexperienced Thunder got into foul trouble early in the first quarter, a trend which would continue through the game. Michael Peddie (19) was again in top form along with game MVP Matthew Brown (37)  who could have had even more if it weren't for a few easy misses. Matthew Norman chipped in with 12 points to compliment a good team display with the right attitude in what was often an aggressive game. Top scorer of the game was Thunders' Craig Wakefield who collected a massive 48 points.

Lions B v Thirsk Thunder
There is little information available on the Thunder but indications point to a well run club with what should be a strong team. Thirsk won the league a few seasons ago before splitting to develop teams at Northallerton, Richmond and Easingwold. They have a strong link with schools development so there should be a mix of experience and young talent on show.

Lions will be looking forward to the return of Marshall Patterson and Miles Sayer after missing the opening defeat at Hartlepool Hornets. Team changes will be made put the squad selection for tonight's fixture will not be announced until the game. Lions are expected to name a strong unit to hopefully place them back on track after the disappointment of their 1 point loss to Hornets. It is also rumoured that Alan Slasor will make his debut after missing out the Hornets game.

The game will take place at Billingham Campus, 6.15pm Tip Off.

Lions Lose By One!
TU Lions B lost their opening fixture of the new campaign by one point as they went down 62-61 to the Hartlepool Hornets. Lions started the game really well with a 6-0 run to shock the home side. Matthew Brown opened the scoring with Michael Peddie taking over shortly after and not stopping until the third quarter when he received a technical foul for bad language and then fouling out in the fourth. The first quarter though was a dream start for the new club and in the ninth minute were leading 4-17 with Katie Lamb scoring a nice 3 pointer on her debut.

The second quarter saw Hornets claw their way back with excellent work from Sam Guerin, including two 3 pointers to come within 3 points with the scores at half time reading 23-26 in favour of the Lions. It was the third quarter that damaged Lions as they could only manage 10 points to that of Hornets 19. This enabled the Hornets to take the lead for the first time and provide a tense and thrilling end to the game. Matthew Brown hit 6 and Peddie added 4 for Lions in the third quarter but with no one else finding the hoop and Peddie collecting a technical foul to place him on 4 fouls of a possible 5 he had to be taken out of the game which left Lions looking a little tame. Lions now had their work cut out as they trailed by 6 points, 42-36.

The fourth quarter witnessed a fantastic finale as both teams went all out for the win. Nathan Duff was terrific in his first game for the Lions and although his positioning needs improvement, the man nicknamed Inspector Gadget didn't disappoint as he made three big steals. Peddie fouled out in the sixth minute to leave the team struggling as they lost their top scorer. Matthew Norman had a quiet game by last season's standards but made a big shot in the eighth minute to take the lead 56-57. In the ninth minute the ending was sealed as A De Silva hit a 3 pointer to tie the game and MVP Sam Guerin made 1 of 2 free throws to seal the victory.

To their credit, the Lions B team is a testament to youth development with five female players (16 and under), all in their first season of competitive basketball and three 12 year olds and the oldest player being 28.
