Lions B team opened
the scoring with Matthew Brown converting a 3
pointer. This was then followed by Richard Keirl
as he spun his defender to create space for
their second consecutive successful shot,
leaving the A team with work to do. James Burton
eventually found the target for the A team as he
weaved through the defence to make his mark
although another two good moves from Keirl,
including a 3 pointer extended the B teams lead
to 2-10. David Whitney broke the mini run with a
baseline shot in the third minute which then
instigated a strong collective A team
performance, resulting in 14 unanswered points
with good work from Andrew Marshall, collecting
8 points and Burton adding 4. Keirl halted the
run with another two baskets which brought the
end of quarter score to a more acceptable 22-16
in favour of the A team.
The second quarter
brought to life Michael Peddie as he wormed his
way through the defence and athletically pounced
on the basket. Peddie hit a commendable 8 points
in the second quarter alone. Burton was again on
target for the A team, converting the first of
his sides 4 points. Stu Davison also performed
well, matching Peddie's 8 point haul. The second
quarter was an open game with both teams playing
well, although the A team just edged it as they
entered half time with a 47-36 lead after an
incredible half way shot from Andrew Marshall at
the buzzer.
The third quarter
was much of the same as both sides played well,
whilst increasing their defensive intensity,
resulting in a low scoring quarter. Again Andrew
Marshall proved dominant for the A team as the
6'10" big man controlled the boards at both ends
of the court. Richie Keirl continued to lead the
B team and although they were behind in the
scores, they never looked out of their depth.
In the fourth the
game took on a new momentum as the A team ran
the game with mini runs, broken up by the odd B
team basket. Peddie, Meek and the impressive
Keirl would combine to collect 11 points in the
final quarter whilst the A team would amount 23
points including two 3's from Burton.
