Lions A opened the scores with Nathan Duff scoring
the first points of the game with two successful
free throws to give the A team the lead. Duff
had been fouled in the act of shooting by
Michael Peddie. Unfortunately for the A team
these 2 points would be the last for the first
quarter. The B team were marginally better with
Katie Lamb hitting 4 points with her accurate
shooting and Dan Brown converting a lay up to
finish the quarter 2-6. Both coaches were
disappointed with the low scoring performance of
their players in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Duff break free again for
the A team as he collected another 4 points in a
row to tie the game 6-6. Peddie regained the
lead for the B team as he weaved through the
defence for an acrobatic lay up. Fellow senior
player, Matthew Brown replied for Lions A as the
game began to open up. Charlie Collins hit the
final shot for the A team to take their scores
to 10 although B team extended their lead to 6
points as James Willaimson, Dan Brown and Katie
Lamb (4) all combined for a 6-0 run to finish
the half up 10-16.
It was the B teams turn to score first as Katie
Dodgson received the ball for a baseline jump
shot. Philip Findlay, back from holiday, hit 1
of 2 free throws as he went to the foul line.
Findlay's second missed shot would lead to a B
team rout as they went on a 10-0 run to increase
their lead to 17. Dan Brown was instrumental,
hitting 8 of the 10 points.
The A team played in rejuvenated fashion in the
final quarter, limiting the A team to only 3
baskets and collecting 5 of their own. Duff was
again on top form as he collected steal after
steal with his long arms and finishing off the
lay ups. Dodgson collected another 4 points for
the B team to award victory by 14 points, 26-40.
MVP is awarded to Dan Brown after another strong
performance from the point guard. Nathan Duff
was awarded the most improved player and almost
got the MVP for his great defence, and now
converting his lay ups.
