The 2009/10 season represented a milestone in the clubs history as the first season of National League basketball. The team finished in 8th place, but were disappointed with their overall achievements. There is no denying that the league is a very tough one and despite the massive improvements throughout the season, the Lions showed their inexperience too much. Some key injuries throughout the season affected the team dramatically and in a number of games Lions could only take 5-7 players. In fact the last game of the season away to Reddish had to be forfeited due to Lions having 7 players unavailable.

On a positive note though, the Lions have progressed and having tested the waters will be a stronger club for this experience. The Lions biggest crowd of the season was 431 v Division One side; Mohawks in the National Cup.

The club can boast a huge success in terms of promotion and publicity with a huge profile in the area. A website search of Middlesbrough Lions will bring in region of 350,000 results with hundreds of photos. Lions are fast establishing themselves as a big name and at Hull, more than 750 people turned up to watch, 550 more than their average attendance.
