Budding basketball stars from across Teesside, Darlington and North Yorkshire were on display today at the third and final All Star Basketball Camp, organised by Game Time. Over 35 players participated in the junior and senior sessions at Bydales School, Marske. The camp witnessed some intense training including a gruelling fitness session for both juniors and seniors which pushed the players to the limit to improve their strength and conditioning. "We wanted the players to go away with exercises they can continue with outside of their regular basketball to further improve them as athletes" added James Thomson, Coach.

The pick of the bunch for the Junior camp was Alan Slasor, who impressed with his good play in the tournament and earned the MVP award. The Senior MVP was Matthew Brown of the Bears, who dominated play during the senior event.

The Junior Most Improved Player (MIP) was awarded to Lauren Bewick, the second youngest player at only 8 years old. This was a unanimous decision by the coaches for the youngsters skill, work ethic and general improvement. The Senior MIP was given to Martin Cook from Easingwold who performed extremely well in both the training and tournament.

 

Their were special mention awards for Katie Burton and Oliver Clark, who both performed well in the Junior Camp and in the All Star Game, a game between the best 10 players throughout the event, the Junior game was tied 10-10 with Katie Burton (4) and Patrick O'Connor (6) providing the All Star blacks points, while Chris Chapman (2) and Marshall Patterson (8) hitting the target for All Star Reds.

 

In the Senior All Star Game, it was a battle between Michael Peddie and MVP Matthew Brown, with Brown's team coming out on top 14-8.
