The second of
three All Star Basketball camps took place
at the impressive Kings Academy School in
Middlesbrough with 46 basketball enthusiasts
receiving top training from James Thomson,
Carlos Alemanno and special guest Sean Ord.
James Thomson and Carlos Alemanno work
closely together in various basketball
developments within Game Time and Sean also
brought a wealth of knowledge from his
professional playing days with Sunderland
and Newcastle.
Special thanks to Kings Academy School and
its staff for hosting the event. 15 students
from the school also participated in the
camp with Rhys Grabham earning the Camp Most
Improved Player.
The junior camp ran from 9-1pm with 26 boys
and girls being put through their paces in a
variety of exercises aimed at improving
their dribbling, passing, shooting, defence
and offence. Ages ranged from 7-13 and all
enjoyed a great day.
After the training, a mini tournament was
organised to allow the players to put into
practise all the skills they had just
learnt. The eventual winners were the Lions
team who overcame the Tigers, Bears and
Gorillas on their way to glory. The Lions
were led by Tournament MVP (most valuable
player) Patrick O'Connor who produced an
inspiring performance to ensure his team
remained unbeaten. Chris Chapman collected
the Most Improved player for his efforts
during the morning and a solid performance
during the games.
The senior camp hosted 20 players aged 14
and over with many attending a camp for the
first time. As in the junior camp, a mini
tournament followed which was won by the
Lions and led by MVP James Burton. During
the camp Matthew Brown, Dan Brown and James
Burton also won Knock out Competitions to
earn further prizes including TU Lions
basketball shorts, TU Lions basketball vest,
baseball caps and Tee Shirts.
The next All Star Camp III is on Saturday
24th November at Bydales School in Marske,
near Redcar. Visit the Events section for
